Our Story

Amy and Pat met in 2011 at Saint Louis University while attending medical school. Amy's parents love to brag that they really started this relationship and they do have a point. At the beginning of Amy's first year during her White Coat Ceremony, Pat was volunteering to drive parents in golf carts from the parking garage to the ceremony in the 100 degree St. Louis heat while Amy was inside rehearsing. Fate being fate, Amy's parents got into Pat's golf cart and they immediately had a sense he was something special. After the celebrations of the day, they mentioned to Amy that she should really keep her eye out for "that cute second year medical student who went to BC and find out if he was single." Amy told them she would be too busy with her studies to focus on a relationship. However, on a weekend off in late October, Pat and Amy ran into each other at a Halloween party and hit it off. They had their first date a week later where Pat cooked Amy homemade Chicken Parmesan and they have been together ever since.

The 5+ years following those exciting early days have been full of love, joy, long distance and everything in between. We cannot wait to share the celebration of our wedding with you and not to mention share everything that we love about Charlottesville with you.

Hotels and Travel

General Info:

We are aware that traveling to Charlottesville is not the most straightforward thing in the world...But there are a ton of options!
- Charlottesville Airport (CHO): might not be the biggest in the world, but has some direct flight options including Chicago, Charlotte and Philadelphia
- Richmond Airport (RIC): about 1 hour away from Charlottesville
- DC Airports (DCA, IAD, BWI): DC is a very easy 2-2.5 hour drive from Charlottesville. There is also a very nice and convenient train that goes from DC right into downtown Charlottesville.
- There will be transport from the hotels to and back from the Wedding Venue so renting a car is not necessary but would be encouraged to allow for more exploration of lovely Charlottesville!

Transportation will be provided to and from King Family for the ceremony and reception.
Shuttles will arrive at the Hampton Inn on W. Main St by 4:05pm and leave for the Omni by 4:20pm. The same two shuttles will arrive at the Omni by 4:30pm and depart for King Family by 4:45pm.

Enjoy the history, food, drink and scenery of Charlottesville and the surrounding Central Virginia countryside while you're here.

While Charlottesville is not considered a big city, it certainly is a big city for food. It has the 14th most restaurants per capita in the country and we think they're all fantastic. Below are a few of our favorites:

Bodo's Bagels: a Charlottesville classic for breakfast
Bluegrass Grill: some of the best Brunch you will ever have; cash only!
MarieBette Cafe & Bakery: excellent, European style cafe - delicious breakfast
Ivy Provisions: Delicious breakfast sandwiches (served all day) and lunch with coffee
Citizen Burger: arguably the best burgers on the downtown mall
Zinburger: a short drive from downtown; Amy's favorite burgers
Lampo: excellent neapolitan pizza; get the meatballs!
Mas: often voted the best restaurant in Charlottesville, a fantastic place for Tapas
Continental Divide: some of the best Tex-Mex you'll ever have
The Bebedero: a relatively new but very excellent place for Mexican
The Local: excellent local food that is just simply good (p.s they're catering the wedding)
Tavola: If you're looking for high quality Italian, this is the place
Monsoon Siam: our favorite Thai in town; their only other location in the world is in Madison, WI!
Now and Zen: our favorite Sushi
Junction: a new Tex-Mex place from those who created the Local right in beautiful Belmont. Bound to be a new favorite. We recommend exploring the fun drink menu!
The Shebeen: Explore a type of cuisine you probably haven't had...South African! Its delicious

Beer and Wine and Cider

Charlottesville and Central Virginia are home to some top notch breweries and vineyards. Check out some of our favorites!

Blue Mountain Brewery: not only excellent for beer, but great views and great lunch too!
Devils Backbone Brewing: excellent beer and pub food
Pro Re Nata Farm Brewery: a newer brewery in the area not too far from out wedding venue; we have to love the medically oriented name
Starr Hill Brewery: Also not far down the road from our wedding venue
Three Notch'd Brewing: excellent craft beers not too far from downtown
Champion Brewing: delicious beer right at the end of the mall
Random Row Brewing: the newest of all of these but promises to be quite excellent and right in town

Veritas Vineyard: one of our absolute favorites; wonderful wines and wonderful views
Afton Mountain Vineyards: You will feel nestled in the mountains here; intimate, goregous views and excellent wine
Pippin Hill Vineyards: rumor has it Jennifer Aniston got married here; with views like this you will see why. We celebrated here on the day of our engagement!
Blenheim Vineyards: founded by the one and only Dave Matthews
Cardinal Point Winery: definitely on the smaller side but with some of Amy's favorite of the local wines
Cunningham Creek Winery: A somewhat new winery on the block, we happened upon it randomly and fell in love.

Castle Hill Cider: delicious cider with a goregous cidery and surrounding grounds
Albemarle Cider Works: intimate cidery with a great variety of ciders
Bold Rock Cider: so many delicious ciders, so little time

Hiking and Central Virginia go hand in hand. From simple trails to challenging climbs, whatever you want to do to connect with nature is out there. Here are some of our favorites.

The Trail at Monticello: if you're looking for a beautiful walk outside right in Charlottesville, this is a great option
Humpback Rocks: this is a hike that is simply must do in Charlottesville. On the short side but quite strenuous; but you are rewarded with breathtaking views at the top
Spy rock: it's impossible not to mention this hike as it is the hike on which Pat and Amy got engaged! Breathtaking 360 views are simply unreal
Crabtree Falls: You can do this hike alone or in conjunction with Spy Rock. It is also a favorite in the area with waterfalls the whole way fact considered "the highest waterfall in the East."
White Oak Canyon: Amy and Pat enjoyed this Shenandoah hike during a vacation in September 2015. It has wonderful views, waterfalls and they even saw a black bear on it!
Rose River Loop Trail: a perfect mixture of leisure, hard work and beautiful nature
Bear Church Rock: a gorgeous mix of waterfalls, streams and fantastic views at the top. Not the easiest hike that Pat and Amy have ventured on, but one of our favorites! Although it is in SNP, no need for a pass to get access to the trail which is a plus.
Old Rag: the quintiscential Shenandoah hike, a bit far from Charlottesville but well worth it for those willing to take on the challenge
And just a few more... here are some others in Shenandoah also with some more detailed descriptions of some above.

Skyline Drive

If you're not up for hiking but still want to enjoy the gorgeous countryside, there's not much better than Shenandoah National Park's Skyline Drive. And if you DO decide to try a quick hike, there are more trails than one could imagine.

Downtown Mall
